Regularly cleaning your stick vacuum cleaner will prevent issues such as poor suction, power issues and issues with the motorised vacuum head.
It is important to clean your vacuum at least once per month to have the optimum performance of your vacuum.
If your vacuum suddenly turns off after starting, it may be overloaded. This is typically caused by a blockage or tangled debris.
Step 1. Disconnect The Unit From Power
For your own safety and to reset the unit please disconnect the stick vacuum from power prior to cleaning the unit.
Please ensure the unit is unplugged, if the unit has a removable battery please refer to the user manual of the device for steps on how to remove the battery.
Once disconnected from the power please press down the power button and hold it down for 10-15 seconds.
Step 2. Disassemble The Unit
Start by removing the tube and emptying the dust tank on the unit.
Hold the machine with the dust tank in a downwards position and firmly push the release button.
Examples of two common models of Kogan Vacuums. Please refer to your user manual for the dust tank location on your specific model.
2.1 - Check The Intake Nozzle
Whilst the aluminum tube is disconnected from the main unit check the intake nozzle for debris or blockages being careful of any sharp edges.
2.2 Remove The Filter From The Main Unit
Remove the filters and wash them in warm water.
Allow the filters to air dry completely. Check the unit for any debris or blockages in the intakes of the main unit. Ensure the filters are completely dry before reassembling.
Please note:
- If you do not know where all the filters on your stick vacuum are located, refer to your user guide for specific instructions.
- Never immerse the main unit in water or any liquid.
- Do not use chemicals when cleaning the filters.
2.3 Inspecting The Tube
Separate the tube from the main unit, please refer to your user manual for directions for your model.
Using a light source, hold the tube up, you should be able to see right through the tube to the light. If you cannot see through the tube or cannot see a full circle you have a blockage in the tube. Remove the blockage being careful of sharp edges.
2.4 - Inspect The Vacuum Head
Please note the vacuum head can have sharp parts, please use extreme care.
Inspect the intake from both ends and carefully remove any debris or blockages.
It is common for hair and dust to build upon the vacuum head, this should be cleared after each use. Please see the example below showing a clogged vacuum head and a clear one.
2.5 Removing The Roller
Please refer to your models manual if this section applies to you.
If the roller can be removed for cleaning there will be a button release on the vacuum head.
Once removed from the vacuum head remove any tangled hair and debris by hand from the roller. Depending on the length you may need to cut away tangled hair with scissors and pull off any debris.
Consult your model’s user manual to confirm if the roller brush can be rinsed under cold water. Before reinserting the roller to the vacuum head ensure the vacuum head has been wiped with a damp cloth removing excess debris. Ensure the roller is completely dry before reassembling. Ensure the roller has been reinserted correctly as per the user manual and is in the lock position.
Step 3 Reassemble The Unit
Once all the filters and rollers have dried, assemble the vacuum ensuring all components are locked into place. Reinsert the battery ensuring all the pins have lined up correctly and have been pushed firmly in place. Charge for a full 10 hours minimum before use.
