On occasion, customers will claim that their EarPods are fake because the packaging of the product doesn’t appear official. While all of our Apple products should be 100% genuine, it’s important to address these claims carefully and respect the customer’s belief.
It’s difficult to confirm whether the EarPods are genuine, however, you can request that the customer performs the following tests and forward any relevant photos.
Apple EarPods with Lightning Connector - KHMMTN2FE
In cases where customers claim their lightning Earpods are fake, luckily there is a clear guide that Apple has provided.
You can provide the link directly to customers and to confirm the steps outlined in the guide:
Apple EarPods with 3.5mm Headphone Plug - KHMD827
- Check the package
Light reflected off of packaging should be smooth and without shadow.
- Check the Sound When Pressing the Buttons
The sound when clicking the volume rocker should be very faint, fake ones will be loud. The gap between the two plastic boards is also thinner than fake ones.
- Check the Bass Sound
Covering the bass hole on a real EarPod will affect the sound. These serve a decorative purpose on fake EarPods.
- Check if light flows through the EarPod
Light will not illuminate the inside of genuine EarPods. However, light will pass through fake ones when placed in front of a phone torch.
