Though all of our Android TVs come with a physical remote control in the box, you can also easily control an Android TV using an app on a compatible smart device.
Using an app is a great solution if you have misplaced or damaged your remote control, require a spare or simply desire the convenience of controlling your TV from your smartphone. App compatibility cannot be guaranteed with all models.
The app allows you to use voice commands with your Android TV, as well as access and navigate through TV apps, TV channels and your settings menu.
Please note that volume controls on the TV are done via phone volume controls.
Android Smart Devices
- Search for “Android TV Remote Control” in the Google Play Store, or click here while using your device.
- Install the application, ensuring to allow the app access to any relevant permissions that are requested.
From here, it will then depend on whether your TV supports a wi-fi connection, Bluetooth connection, or both. The Android system will always prioritise a wi-fi connection over Bluetooth one.
For Wi-Fi connectivity:
- Connect your smart device and TV to the same wireless network.
- Open the Android TV application on your device, ensuring to allow the app access to any relevant permissions that are requested.
- The application should then populate with a list of compatible Android TV devices on the connected Wi-Fi network.

- The devices will commence pairing.
For Bluetooth connectivity:
- Turn on Bluetooth on your smart device, and enable “discoverable mode” so that your device can be found by the TV and vice-versa. Your TV’s default Bluetooth name will be ‘Android TV’, and the Bluetooth discoverability of the TV should be enabled by default.
- Ensure that the Wi-Fi on your smart device is disabled, as the application will otherwise attempt to connect using this method instead.
- Navigate to the “Remotes & Accessories” section of your TV’s settings menu.
- The TV should then populate with a list of detectable Bluetooth devices within pairing range. Press on your device when it appears.
