SmarterHome™ devices are compatible with the Google Home and Amazon Alexa apps.
This article explains how to link your SmarterHome™ account to Google Home or Amazon Alexa, so that you can control your SmarterHome™ device using these apps.
Please note that, in many cases, you can only control the core features of your SmarterHome™ through the Google Home and Alexa apps. Additional features can be controlled through the SmarterHome™ app directly.
Before Linking With Google Home Or Amazon Alexa
Before linking your SmarterHome™ device with your Google or Amazon account, you will need to pair it with the SmarterHome™ app. For information about how to register to use the SmarterHome™ app, refer to How Do I Connect My Kogan SmarterHome™ Device To The SmarterHome™ App?.
You will also need to register and log into a Google or Amazon account before linking your SmarterHome™ device.
Google Home
To link your SmarterHome™ device to your Google Home account, follow the instructions below.
- Open the Google Home app on your mobile device and ensure that you are logged into your Google account.
- Click the '+' icon in the upper-left of the screen.
- Select 'Set up device'.
- Select 'Works with Google'.
- Search for 'Smarter Home'. Select the app when it appears.
- A window will open prompting you to log in. Enter the email address and password used to register your SmarterHome™ account.
- Select 'Authorize' to grant permission for Google to access your SmarterHome™ data.

Select the '+' to open the menu.

Tap 'Set up device'.

Select 'Works with Google'.

Search 'Smarter Home'.

Input your SmarterHome credentials.

Select 'Authorize'.
Once you have completed this process, any devices that are paired with your SmarterHome™ account will appear on your Google Home app's home screen.
Amazon Alexa
To link your SmarterHome™ device to your Alexa app, follow the instructions below.
- Open the Alexa app and ensure that you are logged into your Amazon account.
- Select 'More' from the options at the bottom of the screen, then within this menu, select 'Skills & Games'.
- Search for 'Smarter Home'. Select the app when it appears.
- Click 'Enable to use'.
- A window will open prompting you to log in. Enter the email address and password used to register your SmarterHome™ account.
- Select 'Authorize' to grant permission for Alexa to access your SmarterHome™ data.
- Alexa will display a confirmation message advising that your SmarterHome™ account has been successfully linked to the Alexa app.

Select 'Skills & Games'.

Search 'Smarter Home'.

Tap 'Enable To Use'.

Input your SmarterHome™ credentials.

Tap 'Authorize'.

Close the window.
After completing this process, Alexa will prompt you to search for compatible devices.
Your SmarterHome™ device will then appear in the 'Devices' tab in the Alexa app, within the applicable device category.
I Can't Link My SmarterHome™ Account
If you are having trouble linking your accounts, try the suggestions below to troubleshoot the issue:
- When searching for the SmarterHome™ app, be sure to search for 'Smarter Home'. If you search for the app as a single word, it will not appear in your search results.
- When prompted to log into your SmarterHome™ account, make sure to log in using the same email address used to register your SmarterHome™ account. Also, check that you have entered your password correctly.
- Open the SmarterHome™ app and confirm that your device is paired correctly and appears on the app's home screen. Also, check that the device is appearing online in the SmarterHome™ app.
- Check that your apps are up-to-date. Install any available updates.
- Open the SmarterHome™ app and unpair all SmarterHome™ devices. Then, fully close both the SmarterHome™ and Google Home or Alexa apps. Reopen the SmarterHome™ app and re-pair any SmarterHome™ devices, then finally re-open the Google Home or Alexa app and try again to link your accounts.
- Uninstall the SmarterHome™ app from your mobile device, then reinstall it.
