Some video sources produce images on your TV that are too big, or small, which can result in white bars, black bars, or part of the image being cut off, as shown in the example images below.

Image scaling was designed before TV sizes were standardised but is still used for analogue media, such as VHS tapes.
Scaling allows TVs to cut the image to fit the screen or add bars to the side of the image so it fits normally.
Image scaling still occurs when using digital devices, such as modern computers and consoles, but the TV and device fix the scaling out automatically.
Because devices that connect to your TV are nearly entirely digital now, overscan rarely needs to be adjusted on your TV, instead, many issues can be fixed by simply adjusting the settings of your device.
Resolving Scaling Issues
The steps to rectify scaling problems are summarised below, and explained in further detail in the following sections:
- The first step is to simply disconnect and reconnect the cable.
- If the issue is not fixed, change the settings on the input device, using the applicable dropdown below.
- If the issue is still not rectified, try a firmware reset, as outlined in the "Updating Your TV's Firmware" section.
- Lastly, if none of these steps has resolved the issue, get in contact with our Customer Care Team with a photo of the screen and they will be happy to assist.
If you are using your Windows computer with your Kogan TV, the first step is to check the display settings.
- In Windows 10, navigate to Start > Settings > System > Display. For more information, see Microsoft's article "View display settings in Windows".
- Once opened, set your output resolution to the highest resolution your computer will support out of 1280×720, 1920×1080, or 3840×2160 (if you have a 4K TV). This will match the aspect ratio of your Kogan TV, which is 16:9.
- Make sure you are using the latest update of your version of Windows, and update your PC if not.
- Update your graphics drivers. To do this:
- Search your computer model to find its specifications. Look for the "Graphics" or "GPU" specification
- Depending on your graphics device navigate to the Intel, AMD, or Nvidia GeForce website and use their driver update program to find your latest driver.
