Your SmarterHome™ device may advise that it is "Unable to Establish an Encrypted Channel".
Often, a factory reset will rectify most issues with your device. The steps needed to perform a reset on your device be found in your products manual in the Help Desk.
If this has not rectified the issue, the error "Failed to establish an Encrypted Channel" is likely related to the internet connection to your device.
Please note, even if other devices in your home are functioning normally, due to a multitude of environmental factors, the 2.4 GHz frequency your device is connected to can get crowded or blocked resulting in an unstable and poor connection.
To eliminate this possibility, please test your device by moving it next to your WiFi modem/router after your factory reset and check if it will establish an encrypted channel.
Please ensure not to have any other devices (TV's, PC's, phones, etc.) connected to your WiFi network for the duration of the test.
If the device works as intended during your test you can use the following methods to improve the WiFi signal strength so that it can reach the device:
- Move your WiFi modem/router as close as possible to the device with minimal interferences (walls, plants etc.)
- Use a WiFi Range Extender to extend the range of your WiFi signal to cover potential dead spots.
Should your device still experience difficulties in establishing an encrypted channel please contact Kogan.com support.
