However, there are a number of factors that can affect your viewing experience.
The most common causes of TV picture quality issues are caused by just two factors:
- Poor Source Material
- Incorrect Settings
In this short guide, we will show you how to diagnose picture quality issues with your TV, and then how to rectify them to get the absolute most out of your TV.
Diagnosing TV Picture Quality Issues
Below are some examples of common picture issues that you may experience with your TV.
If your TV does not look smooth, and you can see blocks or squares, or if you find that colours seem to be merging together in sections or blocks, you are not getting the most out of your TV:
Thankfully, these issues can be rectified. The above left shows low resolution, or "pixelation", and the above right shows "compression".
Your 4K TV uses over 8 million pixels to create a sharp image, but if these pixels are not being utilised properly, your TV will not look sharp. Read about how to fix this here.
If you are seeing much more noticeable blocks and unexpected colours as shown below, you may be experiencing Digital TV reception issues.

You may find that movies and other content are dull, the colours aren't quite right, or the TV is blurry or out of focus, as shown in the examples below:
To rectify these three issues, the settings will need to be optimised for your viewing.
The green area shows the number of pixels compared to the common Full HD and 576 resolutions. If you view either of these resolutions, the image will be stretched to fit your TV, so it is really important to use 4K footage where possible, and Full HD content in other cases. We suggest avoiding standard definition content.
If 4K content is available and your internet bandwidth can handle the data load the applications will generally automatically stream the video in 4K. The resolution may automatically drop and buffer if your internet connection becomes congested.
An Ethernet connection to your TV is always recommended. WiFi is much more susceptible to issues, and even when other devices are working on your WiFi, there is a huge range of factors that affect your TVs connection.

Each Kogan TV arrives with default picture settings, that can be adjusted.
The default settings are designed to be a general guide, but every household is different, and we recommend changing through the settings on your TV to find one suitable for your needs.
Keep in mind, there is no single "best" setting, as the settings are a balance between visibility in low light, colour realism, power usage and even sharpness.
Some of the settings that may appear on your TV are listed below. Please note that not all of these preset options may appear, depending on the model of your TV:
Standard: The default image preset.
User: User-defined picture settings, allowing for more control over the image settings.
Mild: Subtly muted colours to prevent eye strain and ease long-term viewing.
Sports: Provides a sharper image for fast-moving action sequences, as well as raising the visibility of green shades for easier viewing of sporting games played on grass fields.
Dynamic: Similar to Sports, this setting will provide a superior picture for rapid action, but without the alteration of the colouration. This preset also provides a mild increase in the contrast ratio of the image.
Vivid: This mode significantly enhances the contrast of the image to provide more vibrant colouration and more noticeable differences between light and dark shades.
These are only general settings and are by no means the only usable option for each viewing application. If your TV is looking dull, over-saturated, blurry, too bright or not bright enough, you may alter or improve the image quality to your taste through the settings of your TV.
This can be easily completed by pressing the “Menu” button and selecting one of the settings.
If there appears to be an issue with the sharpness of the image, changing the picture settings may rectify the issue.
The default setting will be "standard", changing this to "home" will provide a sharper image in some scenarios.
