Netflix is the world's leading subscription-based video streaming service and is available on most modern internet-connected devices.
Many of our products will support Netflix, though please check the product listing or user manual to confirm that your device is compatible before attempting to use the service.
Accessing Netflix on your Kogan Smart TV
TVs with Google Play Store (Kogan SmarterTV™)
Though this model supports the Netflix application, it typically will not come pre-installed on the device. This is due to the fact that the Netflix application and services are constantly being updated by the developer, and typically any version of the app that we include would be outdated by the time the unit reaches the customer.
Once you've connected the TV to your internet connection, simply navigate to the Google Play Store from your TV's menu screen, and search for "Netflix". You can then download and install the app to utilise it.
Even if your product supports Netflix, you may see a message stating "This device is not optimised for Netflix" when installing the application from the Google Play Store. You can still proceed to download the application as normal, and it should run without issue.
Please ensure you have the most current version of your TV's firmware installed; you can find this by searching for your product code at our Help Centre.
TVs with Linux architecture (Series 7 AF7000/AF7100)
Netflix comes pre-installed on these models, and can be easily accessed by pressing the dedicated "NETFLIX" button on your TV's remote.
If for any reason you are unable to load Netflix by pressing this button, please ensure Netflix is enabled through your system settings:
- Press MENU key to display the main menu on the screen.
- Press
key to select "Function" option.
- Press ► key to enter "Function" submenu.
- Press "
" key to select "Netflix Deactive" option.
- Press "►" or "ENTER" key to confirm.
- Press "Yes" to confirm again, the Netflix will be activated.
TVs with the Aptoide store (Series 8 KU8000 SZA/SZB/SZC)
Much like the Google Play Store, these models feature the Aptoide app store for downloading additional applications for your device.
Simply launch Aptoide from your TV's home screen, search for 'Netflix' and follow the installation process.
Afterwards, Netflix will be available to launch on your TV without issue.
APK Installation (Series 9 MU9000/Series 7 LH7000)
Occasionally, updates to the Netflix app can make many devices, including some of our TVs, not detected as compatible. In practice, this only means that the app will be unavailable to download from the Google Play Store as it does not receive confirmation that the TV is a compatible device.
The app does work without issue, and you can download it directly from Netflix's website to get it running.
To install Netflix on these models:
- Click here to download the app file: https://netflixhelp.s3.amazonaws.com/netflix-4.16-200217-release.apk
- Copy the downloaded file to a USB drive.
- Insert the USB into the TV.
- Open the "File Manager" app on the TV, navigate to your USB drive storage and select the APK file.
- Select Install.
Screen Mirroring (Series 8 MU8010/Series 8 LU8010)
You can easily utilise the screen mirroring function of your TV to cast Netflix from a compatible smart device for hassle-free viewing.
Please refer to the following article for setup assistance: Smart HDR TV - How do I use Screencast/Multiscreen on my Android device?
Please note that this process is only supported for the models listed above, and that we may not be able to guarantee screen mirroring compatibility with Netflix for other products.
Accessing Netflix on a Google Chromecast
To connect your Chromecast to your Netflix account, make sure you have connected your Chromecast to your TV and Wi-Fi network, then follow the steps below. Your mobile device or computer must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast. For information or assistance connecting your Chromecast to your TV and/or Wi-Fi network, see support.google.com/chromecast.
-
Launch the Netflix app on your Android or Apple mobile device, or visit the Netflix website from your Chrome browser.
-
Once you’re signed in, select the Cast (
) icon from the upper right or lower right side of the screen.
-
Select your Chromecast from the list of available devices to launch the Netflix app on your TV.
-
Select a TV show or movie to watch and press Play.
Your Chromecast will now be connected to your Netflix account and ready for viewing.
Viewing Netflix in 4K
As with any streaming of high-bitrate files, ultra HD/4K video is much more demanding than standard definition in terms of the data transmission speed required
Even if your internet connection is strong throughout your household, you may still find that viewing 4K content over wi-fi will produce stuttering, buffering or a lower-quality image.
For this reason, we always recommend that you utilise a wired ethernet connection (where possible) for any device you are wishing to view ultra HD media on, as this will provide you with significantly more bandwidth to support these larger video files.
Please ensure that your device is capable of supporting 4K content before attempting to utilise this service - you can confirm this from your user manual or product listing.
On most of our models, you can also verify that the media that you are viewing is being encoded in 4K by pressing the INFO button on your remote while watching the program, which will bring up the current resolution and bitrate.
Your image will not change over to 4K until your network speed reaches 7Mb/s, so the resolution will steadily climb until this network speed can be provided, at which point you can verify that the picture is indeed 3840 x 2160 pixels.
The standard Google Chromecast will not support ultra HD content - you would instead need to consider the Google Chromecast Ultra, intended for this exact usage.
It is also worth noting that 4K video on Netflix is not a standard inclusion of the base-level service, and is not available through any Netflix subscription level below Premium.
For more information on what each Netflix subscription level provides, please see Netflix's plan comparison chart.
