Most computers with an external video output can be connected to your TV via the VGA port or more commonly the HDMI port, depending on the connections of your computer and TV.
If your TV does not connect automatically to your computer when plugging in the correct cables try the following:
Make sure the cable used is connected properly and not damaged.
Use a different cable to ensure the cable being used is in working condition.
Make sure the TV input source is set to HDMI/VGA connection you have your computer connect to. If not, switch the input source by press the 'input/source' button on your TVs remote.
Check to see if the TV shows ups as a secondary display in your computer settings.
For Windows PCs
- Open up 'display settings' by typing 'display' in the start bar, going through 'settings' and selecting 'display settings' or by right-clicking the desktop and selecting 'display settings' from the drop-down menu.
For Macs
- Open System Preferences from the Apple menu
- Click on the Display icon
Once in display settings for your computer, the resolution and other variables can be changed.
If the computer is not outputting at the resolution the TV is capable of over HDMI, refer to the article 'Which Cable And Port Should I Use With My TV Or Monitor?' for more information about HDMI connections.
Some issues may be related to the ability of the graphics card in your computer. Refer to the computer and graphics card manufacturer for more information.
