Please note: This article only applies to Android phones that have Android 5.1 installed as the factory operating system.
If you have upgraded to Android 5.1 your phone should not be affected.
Google has recently introduced a new security feature as part of the Android 5.1 update.
This new feature is designed to make the phone unusable in the event of theft, however, it can cause problems when attempting troubleshooting.
If you have reset the password on your Google account and you then attempt a factory reset within 72 hours, your phone will be automatically locked for 72 hours.
You can find a more detailed explanation of this feature here.
If your phone has been locked by this new feature, unfortunately it is not possible to unlock the phone by any means, until the 72 hours have passed.
