3G networks will provide you with access to data usage, such as internet connectivity.
4G networks are a much faster version of the 3G models.

850Mhz - Telstra, Vodafone
900Mhz - Optus, Vodafone, Kogan Mobile
2100Mhz - Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Kogan Mobile
4G - Mobile Networks
700Mhz - Telstra, Optus
850Mhz - Vodafone, Kogan Mobile
900MHz - Telstra
1800Mhz - Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Kogan Mobile
2100Mhz - Telstra, Optus, Vodafone, Kogan Mobile
2300Mhz - Optus 2600MHz - Telstra, Optus
Please Note: Telstra, Optus and Vodafone are the only 'true' network providers. Other networks such as Boost, Virgin and amaysim are virtual networks, and run off a parent provider such as the three 'true' networks above.
This means that any phone that is compatible with the parent network, will also be compatible with the virtual network.
Please Note: 2G frequencies were switched off in Australia in 2017.
