There are a few things that you can try if your air conditioner is not cooling your room properly.
Sealing The Room
You should choose your air conditioners power rating according to the size of the room it will be in. For more information on this, please check our related sizing guide. Typically, you will not be able to cool a whole home with a single split system. For this reason, it is important that you have closed all the windows and doors in the room, whilst the air conditioner is on, or if you would like to leave the doors open, you have the air conditioners on in those rooms also.
Split systems recirculate air and cool it down over time. If any windows or doors are open it will reduce the efficiency of the unit and the room will not be cooled properly.
Make sure the unit is set to 'Cool'. Typically, a snowflake symbol will appear next to 'Cool' on the remote, but check your products User Guide for the exact layout of your remote.
If the ambient temperature is lower then the temperature set on the unit, the compressor will not engage and the unit will just circulate the air.
The opposite is true for the heating function (if applicable): make sure the unit is set to 'Heat', and a sun symbol will appear next to 'Heat' on the remote. Likewise, if the ambient temperature is hotter then the temperature set on the unit, the compressor will not engage.
After setting the cooling or heating mode, you can also clean the filters if the air conditioner is not achieving satisfactory airflow. The instructions for this will differ depending on the specific air conditioner you are dealing with, but the most common steps are outlined below:
- Remove the air filter by opening the panel with both hands and pulling the filter out downwards.
- Use a vacuum cleaner or water to rinse the filter. If it is very dirty, dissolve a mild detergent into warm water (below 45°C).
- Allow the filter to dry fully by air.
- Reinstall by following removal steps in reverse.
For specific steps for your exact model check your products User Guide.
