Washing machines take water from a tap, pass it through a filter and a dispenser, hold it in the drum, and finally expel it into a drain or sink. This means that washing machines can leak from several different locations if something is wrong.

 

If you have found a pool of water at your washer or can see it leaking, the first step is to locate the source of the leak.

 

 

 

Finding The Leak

 
     
    • Check the door for water, note that water can leak from the dispenser and travel behind the door, making it look like the door is leaking when it is actually the dispenser
     
    • Carefully inspect and feel the front of the soap dispenser on your washer for any signs of water
     
    • Check the filter. This is typically located behind a panel on the front face of front-load washers. Usually, this panel is located at the bottom right of the washer, but check your products user manual for confirmation
     
    • Inspect both ends of the hoses going into and out of the washer. The leak could be located where the hose connects to the tap or where the washer connects with the hose
      

     

     

    Once you have located the leak, there is simple troubleshooting to try that will likely rectify the issue:

    If the door of your washer is leaking, double-check that the water is coming from the door. Feel around the dispenser for any signs of moisture, as leaks from the dispenser often fall behind the door and escape at the base of the door.

     

    If the dispenser is definitely not leaking, open the door of the washer, and carefully inspect the seal for debris, rips and tears. Fold back the ridge of the flexible seal so you can check the entire seal properly.

    If possible with your model, remove the dispenser from the washer. Do not force the dispenser out. In some models there will be a coloured tab in the top of the dispenser you will need to push down whilst you pull the dispenser out.

     

    Once it is removed, wipe down the entire dispenser with a clean damp cloth. Following this, look into the empty dispenser drawer hole for the holes at the top. These holes feed water into the dispenser. Clean them with a clean damp cloth to remove any blockages or obstructions.

    In front load washing machines, the filter is typically located in the bottom front right corner of the washer, behind a small plastic panel. The filter simply screws in and screws out. Some water will spill out that is stored in the washer, so have a towel or small tray underneath the filter ready to catch it.

     

    Remove the filter, and wipe the entire thing with a clean damp cloth, being careful to remove any debris. Repeat the cleaning process for the thread on the washer that the filter screws into.

     

    For top load washers, the filter is located in the centre shaft of the drum and can be removed by pulling up on it gently. It can be cleaned under running water or with a cloth.

    Washing machines have hoses that travel hoses in and out of the machine.

     

    Once you have determined which hose is leaking, check both ends of the hose to determine which side the leak is coming from.

     

    Turn off the tap, remove the hose and clean the thread on the hose and on the tap. Reattach the hose and turn on the tap. If the leak continues, there is a small rubber ring in the end of the hose that may need replacing. This ring can be sourced at any local hardware store or you can contact our Customer Care Team.
